I have even done so on a spare Vista computer I have, which also had a SLIC 2.1 BIOS, and it activated with no issue. I can do a OEM activation where no product key is used, due to it now having SLIC 2.1.
WHAT IS SLIC TOOLKIT INSTALL
Hi Roy,I know I can install Windows 7 on this computer. But, I don't want to install and activate Windows 7 if it is not legal to do so. However, since this laptop has a COA for Vista, would this be legal? With support for Vista ending soon I see Windows 7 as a much better and more secure option than Vista. I know that I would be able to install of Windows 7 on this computer and do an OEM activation, now that the BIOS has SLIC 2.1. I updated the BIOS to a newer version, and one of the changes added in more recent BIOS versions, was 'Updated: SLP2.1 for WINDOWS 7.' I am currently doing a cleanup on a Toshiba computer which came installed with Vista. The MB datasheet indicates the board supports Core 2 quad processors with a 1066 MHz FSB.

WHAT IS SLIC TOOLKIT LICENSE KEY
You can use other keys, as far as I know, as long as you change the license key after imaging. While yes you can technically make it work with other media it will break Microsoft's license agreement. You can double check but I am almost 100% positive the only legal way of re-imaging is via using a Volume License media and key. Just as if I was to build a desktop at home and put windows on it. So each computer has it's own OEM license. So I use the license on the bottom of each computer to activate windows on each single computer. So when I image the other computers I need to activate them immediately with a license. At this point there is no license installed with that computer.

Thanks but it is not illegal because, I wipe the computer that I am going to image using a Windows 7 Pro SP1 ISO disk and then get the computer updated how I want it and then make an image. I would get a Volume License key for Windows 7, should only be like $300 or so since you only need one copy. I believe imaging a Windows OEM computer to deploy to other systems is not legal. Essentially, organizations that obtained their systems with a qualifying base VL image through an OEM have rights to replace the OEM version with their customized master image." Ĭheck out this discussion as well. They can create a customized master image and then deploy it to PCs from any OEM. Organizations with VL agreements also have rights to reimage using volume media. Customizing and reimaging a Windows 7 Professional Edition image needs to be conducted in compliance with the terms of the organization’s licensing purchase. Within this VL policy, organizations may reimage OEM systems or systems with retail licenses by using the media provided under their VL agreement. " Reimaging rights are granted to all Microsoft VL customers as part of the “policy” governing their license agreement(s).

Thanks all in advance.ĭo you have at least one volume license for Windows 7 PRO? That's the only way to get reimaging rights.

WHAT IS SLIC TOOLKIT WINDOWS 8
But instead they came with a Windows 8 Pro Sticker. Call Lenovo or Microsoft? All the computers should have come with an OEM license on the bottom. So I guess what do you all think I should do. We do not have the money for a Volume License. Is that even legal? To top it all off, I cannot reactivate windows on any of them because it says that the license has been used. Every one of those computers is using the exact same license. So I used the magic jelly bean keyfinder to see what license was used, and they are all the same. The issue that I have run into is all of these laptops came with no sticker on the bottom. So they all are activated using the same license that they shipped with from the factory. Then I image all the other computers using that image and then activate windows using the sticker on the bottom corresponding to that single computer. Normally what I do is, when we get a large batch of computers I wipe one of them and get all the stuff that I want on it installed and then sysprep and capture the image to the server. So we bought 20 Lenovo E545 laptops with Windows 7 installed on them. Hello everybody I am kind of stumped here with this problem.
